The Saami National Day was listed for the first time in the Finnish Almanac in 2004, by The Almanac Office at the University of Helsinki. The Saami are the only original inhabitants of Europe. They have celebrated their National Day for about ten years. The date sixth of February comes from the year 1917, when Saami People from Norway and Sweden had their first meeting together in Trondheim. The biggest worry then was the keeping of their living conditions, because the main inhabitants took away more and more land from them.

The Sámi Flag

The Saami received their own flag in 1986 and they have ten official flag-raising days.
