Kuokkalankoski Market 17.7.2004 The Highlight of the Summer in Lempäälä
Traditional, annual summertime market, Kuokkalankoski Market, in Lempäälä has been arranged since the year1992. The market place is located in a very historical and verdant park grounds of Manor House of Hakkari. These markets have gained extensive reputation also in the surrounding cities and municipalities. Plenty of visitors will also arrive e.g. from the Tampere city (only about 20 kilometers north of Lempäälä). Thousands and thousands of visitors have got fascinating experiences which will tempt them to come back into the market from year to year.
The focus theme and image of the markets is to strengthen the uniqueness and genuineness of our home area. And how to do that ? The main attractors in the markets are live presentations of the new, fresh Finnish Tango Queen and the show (shooting the rapids) in the Kuokkalankoski rapids by professional lumberjacks.
Inauguration ceremonies of the Lempo of the year (Vuoden Lempo) is one highlight in the markets. Lempo of the year is an acknowledgement to a person who has created wider positive image to Lempäälä. A wide area is reserved for market traders for selling their handicrafts, bakery products, souvenirs etc.
Supplementary services and occasions are, among other things, a tasty market buffet in the Villa Hakkari restaurant and demonstrations of old working methods and tools in the Heritage Area of Kuokkala (called also as Museum Route) that is located close to the marked area. Free admission into the markets and in all occasions has been one of the key success factors for popularity. In the late afternoon, when market will be closed, the day will continue with open air summer theatre, where the local Youth Association will present some Finnish comedy play. The market day will not be perfect without traditional dancing evening in the ballroom of an old cow-house. The market is arranged by the Rotary Club of Lempäälä for financing their extensive international Youth Exchange activities.
