Fresh new tourism brochure for Helsinki

The “Helsinki Your Way” tourism brochure has just been published in a redesigned, readerfriendly format. The contents are arranged by city districts, allowing tourists to see at a glance what is on offer in specific places. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy Helsinki throughout the year, with clear and visual presentations of Helsinki’s most interesting attractions, sights, restaurants, services, shopping opportunities, excursions and sightseeing tours. The Tourist & Convention Bureau’s marketing focus areas – family activities, the Nordic Oddity campaign for young travellers, and the Hot Helsinki Team winter campaign – are presented on their own spreads. A total of 550,000 copies of the brochure have been printed in no less than nine languages.

The official website of the Tourist & Convention Bureau, which was thoroughly overhauled two years ago, has moved to a new address: www.visithelsinki.fi. The address is similar in format to that of other international city tourism offices and should be easier to remember. New city centre and regional maps offer more information
A new Helsinki City Tourist Map has been published to help visitors find their way around the city centre. The map features a detailed index in six languages. In addition, a new Helsinki Region Map has also been published. Taxi stands and the taxi service number are now included in both new maps for the first time. The maps also include information about Helsinki City Transport services, Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council (YTV) commuter park and ride services along routes into the city, VR local commuter train routes and stations, and bus numbers and departure platforms around the Central Railway Station and Kamppi Bus Terminal. The maps are available from regular distribution points and nine automatic dispensing machines around the city.

Each year around 10 million tourists visit Helsinki. The Helsinki City Tourist & Convention Bureau promotes Helsinki as a travel destination, provides tourist information, and produces brochures and other presentation materials for foreign and domestic visitors. The two Tourist Information offices, on the corner of the Market Square and inside the Central Railway Station, served a total of approximately 373,000 customers during 2005. In addition, the mobile team of Helsinki Helpers offered assistance to 70,000 tourists throughout the city.
