Taipalsaari in South Karelia
A couple of unigue embankment roads lead from Lappeenranta to taipalsaari. The eastern one goes to Vehkataipale, where the canal built in the 1930`s and the pumphouse dominate the scenery. Along the western one you can drive to Taipalsaari and, using this shorter road, it is only 14 km away. The museum of local history and culture with the museum of horse drawn vehicles and local handicrafts and the beautiful wooden church are worth a visit.
The Kotiseututalo Röytty is one of the oldest buildings in Taipalsaari. This building was formerly the inn by the old winter road.
The dwelling part consists of a workroom, a multi-purpose room, a kitchen and a parlour. For school activities, a large assembly room and veranda were built in 1875. Changing exhibitions, as well as objects formerly used by peasants in the Salo area, are on display in the assembly room.
